Oversized polo shirt
With every new collection release and fashion week cycle comes the desire to say something meaningful and stand up for what we believe in. For Zoe Champion and Wei Lin heading up design and operations at PH5, the Fall 2024 season is no exception.
For many seasons now, knitwear design and the storytelling of its origins has remained sharply in focus, but with so much to say, the message must be equal parts thought and action. The foundation of PH5 is rooted in cross-cultural expression, both social and political, but above all, environmental. From sustainability and labor rights to female independence and domestic evolution, knitting has become a fixed part of history, and a permanent staple in modern dressing.
For Champion, the connection to knitting is a familial one sparked by her grandmother who first taught her how to knit a scarf – an experience that transcends time, resources, and ethnicity. It was the beginning of generational thought, a kind that has figuratively and literally woven its way into Champion’s work and is omnipresent for Fall 24.
And so, this season begins with the humble scarf, an essential wardrobing tool reinterpreted in form and function. Fall 24 sees scarves draped around the body while traditional forms are twisted into more modern silhouettes. Texture is underscored in fine gauzy mohair pieces with movement that calls to the familiar act of tossing the accessory over your shoulder or it being blown in the wind.
